Arie: “The Players Understand that this is a dream”

The Under-19 team will fly to Porto on Sunday for their Champions League Youth League match as they will face FC Porto on Machday Three. Just before the club heads off to Europe, Ziv Arie spoke about his club’s 1:0 win over Nes Tziona, the Champions League game and the busy week ahead for Maccabi “Shachar”:

“We’re preparing for the match within a number of parameters. In the match against Nes Tziona we wanted to make sure our opponent wouldn’t have any dangerous chances on our goal. Over the years with a strong offensive side or one that’s no so AQ7A9187strong, any time we don’t give up a foolish goal we end up winning the game. On Saturday we did a good job with that. Not only did we control the game we had a bunch of chances. We should’ve had 6-7 goals in our favor.”

On the offensive side that couldn’t succeed in scoring more goal:

“I told the players that we have a young and inexperienced offense, one that’s pretty new so it will take some time to adjust. Until we can get better in this aspect of the game we will have to keep taking points as best as we can and we’ve been able to do that in all of the matches except for one.”

There’s many matches coming up for the young Yellow-and-Blue:

“I’m not going to lie, we are thinking about all of the games that we have. We’re flying on Sunday and the Champions League is an incredible experience. Porto is an excellent team that came back from being 3 goals down in one of the games. Like all AQ7A9207of the other Champions League matches we have, we’ll come to play football, play better defense and get a good result. When we get back to Israel we will have to prepare for Maccabi Haifa, a match that we always like to play in.”

The feeling amongst the players:

“The players understand that this is a dream and we spoke about this just last night. They’re playing in the Champions League and some may even play with the first team in the Toto Cup. We told them that with hard work anything is possible.”

Maccabi Shachar picks up 1-0 victory

Matchday Four of the Ligat Ha’Al Youth League saw Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv picking up a 1:0 victory over Sektzia Nes Tziona away on a goal by Tomer Altman. Ziv Arie’s side controlled the tempo of the match and scored the winner in the 13th minute. On Sunday the club will head to Portugal along with the first team as they will play in the Champions League Youth League against Porto.

The first half saw Maccabi “Shachar” hold possession of the ball and had an early chance by captain Dan Glazer in the 10th minute as his scorcher of a shot hit off of the post. But just three minutes later Tomer Altman found the back of the Nes Tziona goal to take a 1:0 lead. A group effort saw Gabi Kanikovski’s shot saved by the Nes Tziona ‘keeper with the rebound being put into the goal by Altman. More opportunities followed for Maccabi with Or Dasa and Bar Galili unable to increase the lead. Amit Shapira, Mahmoud Alawesat, Amit Rosenboim and Shay Golan also provided chances for the Under-19 side.

Maccabi “Shachar” continued to control the tempo in the second half but couldn’t find a way past the Nes Tziona ‘keeper as Dasa, Kanikovski, Altman and Alawesat all had opportunities. The important win right before the Champions League Youth League match in Porto will send off the club in good spirits as they will play Maccabi Haifa next week in the domestic competition.

Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv – Maccabi “Kalfo” Petach Tikva (Kiryat Shalom Training Facility, 08:30)

On Matchday One the Central District Under-15 team will play at Nes Tziona. Erez Belfer and Ran Elias’s side will look to begin the year on the right foot on the road.

The Sharon District Team 2 Under-15 side will also be in action away at perhaps the toughest team in the league, Maccabi Haifa as they’ll look to open up the year on a positive note.

“I’m happy as to how we looked, we came to play”

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv added a new page to the youth team’s history book after drawing 1:1 against Dynamo Kyiv and collected its first point in the Champions League Youth League.

The coach, Ziv Arie summed up the match saying:

“I wanted to take a point against Chelsea, but it was just not realistic. But here we did take a point. All of the other teams in this competition are better than us, maybe not on a personal level or in training, but their speed and their physical play. In every match we play we want to take a least a point. We want to look good and be able to stand toe-to-BZ1A5497toe at the highest levels and make sure we perform on the pitch. It’s tough as there are really some great teams here, the top of the top. Usually I’m not thrilled with a draw, but I’m happy as to how we looked.”

On the players performance:

“We changed our system up a bit and we also wanted to do so on Saturday against Sakhnin but it just didn’t work. Gabriel Kanichowsky is a player born in 1997 and he has to do a bit more. He’s one of the older guys on the team and he’s taken that responsibility upon himself.”

On participating in the competition:

“It’s a rare opportunity, and each game here is equal to eight regular league matches. Especially in its intensity, I’m enjoying it. At the Chelsea match I told the players that instead of being with their families (on Rosh HaShana) they travelled to play a game, yesterday instead of sleeping in the Sukkah they trained and prepared for the match. There’s a lot of games and it’s a dream.”

The first ever goal scorer for Maccabi “Shachar” in the Champions League YouthBZ1A5612 League was Gabriel Kanichowsky, and he said following the match:

“It’s an experience and a lot of fun for the team, we wanted to win and we gave our maximum and as we continue on we want to pick up more points in the other matches. Of course I’m happy I scored but it makes absolutely no difference if it was me or one of my teammates. The main thing is that the ball went into the goal. The heat affected both teams, and our opponent came from a country with a colder climate. There’s no question that this competition is the best thing that could have happened to us and also for football in Israel in general. What will be against Porto? It’ll be difficult, but I hope we will also collect points in Portugal.”

Maccabi Under-19’s draw with Kyiv 1-1

The Maccabi Under-19 youth team played valiantly against their Kyiv counterparts under a sunny sky and hot temperatures at the Ramat HaSharon stadium as Ziv Arie’s side collected their first point on Matchday Two.

Both clubs began the match tentatively trading opportunities, but it would be Dynamo Kyiv who would strike the first blow as Bogdan Mykhaylichenko would come in from the right side to score for the guests and take a 1:0 lead in the 21st minute. Maccabi would then add an opportunity of their own as Tomer Altman’s chance would be saved by the Ukrainian ‘keeper Vadym Soldatenko.

However, just one minute later the Yellow-and-Blue would be rewarded as Gavriel Kanichowsky would score to even the match up on a terrific pass from Eylon Almog to give the close to 1000 fans a chance to cheer the future stars on. Mykhaylichenko almost gave Kyiv the lead except his shot hit off the cross bar and Kanichowsky would have an opportunity for Maccabi to go ahead to no avail as the sides headed into halftime all knotted up at 1:1.

The second half saw Maccabi “Shachar” dominate the play but chances by Almog, Or Dasa, Amit Shapira and Bar Galili couldn’t break the deadlock as the match ended in a 1:1 draw.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Starting Lineup: Haviv Ohayon, Maxim Grechkin, Idan Yogev (Amit Rosenboim 45′), Bar Galili, Ran Vaturi, Dan Glazer, Shai Golan, Tomer Altman (Amit Shapira 67′), Gavriel Kanichowsky, Or Dasa, Eylon Almog (Dor Galili 74′)

Arie- “It’s important that there’s a good football atmosphere”

A day of Champions League football begins tomorrow as Maccabi Tel Aviv faces Dynamo Kyiv on Matchday Two of the Champions League Group Stages. Prior to the main event at Sammy Ofer Stadium, the Maccabi youth side will play its Dynamo Kyiv counterpart at Grundman Stadium in Ramat HaSharon at 13:00.

After the loss against Chelsea in England, the Yellow-and-Blue will attempt to pick up their first points tomorrow. Head Coach Ziv Arie spoke to the official website about how the players are feeling about playing in the illustrious competition, the match against Dynamo Kyiv and the importance of the supporters at the match:

“I believe that there is a lot of excitement amongst the players, but we are trying to keep a low profile. Every match in a European competition is an amazing experience for us and we are trying to be as professional as possible and separate ourselves from all of the excitement that comes with it.”

On the desire to pick up points tomorrow:

“As crazy as it may sound so we believed that we could defeat Chelsea. It’s important for us to look good, play attractive football and compete as these levels against these types of teams and to take some points. Dynamo Kyiv’s youth side might not be at the level of Chelsea’s but they are still at a higher level than what we would normally face.”

On the importance of the supporters tomorrow:

“We purposely picked a small stadium so that the fans can be a part of the action. It’s important that there’s a good football atmosphere with a lot of supporters in general and especially ours.”

Grechkin: “We need that extra push”

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv will make history on Tuesday as they will host Dynamo Kyiv in their first home game of the UEFA Champions League Youth Tournament on Matchday Two. The match will take place at Grundman Stadium in Ramat HaSharon at 13:00 and admission is free.

Maxim Grechkin, Maccabi “Shachar”’s left back spoke to the official website about his teammate’s feelings prior to the important match against the Ukrainian side and how important a packed Grundman Stadium would be for the club:

“There’s a lot of excitement as this is the biggest European tournament for youth players and it’s a huge opportunity for us to be part of it. We have a couple of days to prepare for the match and we’re trying to put a great effort into the training sessions in order to do the best that we can. Our last opponent was the European Champions. We did some scouting and we have a file on the Kyiv youth side so we know what each player’s strengths and weaknesses are.”

On the importance of the supporters on Tuesday:

“The fans are 50% of the game. You can be a good team and you can play well but we also need the support to back us up. Just like at Sammy Ofer where there will be over 30,000 fans we would be happy to see 2,000 at our home match. We need that extra push and it’s always fun to have the crowd behind us. We will be 150% ready for this game even though we lost to Sakhnin which was a tough match. There’s a difference between the two competitions and we are going into the game to take three points.”

On his personal goals this season as an older player:

“For me this is a challenge as this is a new group of players. We had an extended training camp and I’m sure with the other two older players we can develop into a strong team that you’ll be able to see on the pitch.”

Bnei Sakhnin defeats Maccabi Shachar Tel Aviv 1:0

Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv travelled up north to play Bnei Sakhnin on Matchday Two of the Ligat Ha’Al Youth League and came up short losing 1:0.

The opening of the match was fairly even as both sides had trouble mustering up many chances with the majority of the play taking place around midfield. Arie’s team tried to find a way through the stingy Sakhnin defense to no avail as the clubs headed into halftime tied 0:0.

The Yellow-and-Blue looked for a goal at the start of the second half but it was Ameer Khalaila who scored for Sakhnin capitalizing on a Maccabi mistake in the 60th minute. Tomer Altman and his teammates tried to find the equalizer but the Sakhnin ‘keeper Kamal Kanahna seemed to always be in the right place at the right time as the home side collected the three-points and the win.

Next week, Maccabi Netanya visits Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Ramle Stadium on Matchday Three of the Israel Youth League.
