Maccabi Foundation visits Jewish Communities in the United States

As part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv Foundation programs a connection with the Jewish communities in the Diaspora is a must. The goal is to strengthen the connection between the Club, its history, Israel and the Jewish World with Maccabi Tel Aviv and especially the Foundation activities.

During the month of May, Yuval Shaham the Maccabi Foundation Manager visited six Jewish communities in the United States where he gave lectures and had special activities that combined the Club to the various areas that were visited. The trip began in Washington and ended in New York with stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Indianapolis and South Bend as well. The Maccabi Foundation was able to reach 400 people which included children, youth, adults and senior citizens.

The participants learned about the club’s history, its deep connection to the Jewish people and the State of Israel and how the Foundation works with many communities throughout Israel using the strength of Maccabi and football. The communities which took part in this first trip will continue to enjoy the Foundation activities with the hope that they will be community partners in the future.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Girls Academy

For the first time in the club, the Maccabi Tel Aviv youth academy will run a girls’ academy. After the success of the first teams of girls established for the last year and a half, the club will continue to form additional teams by recruiting girls of different ages and create a special girls’ academy.

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Academy Girls project will have its own department. After the success of the club’s debut team there is an interest to add additional teams at various age levels in order to develop a girls academy. The club sees this project with the utmost importance in order to develop women’s football throughout the country and over the next few months will look to recruit girls between the ages of 5-15. The goal is to create a number of teams at different age groups with each squad limited to 25 girls and the teams will use the club’s football philosophy.

The Club’s Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen spoke about the program: “It’s important for the Youth Academy to promote women’s football within the club and create a unique and professional environment for young girls who wish to play professional football. The girls’ groups will train and act in accordance with the philosophy of the youth academy.”

Age groups:
U15
U13
U11
U9
U7
U6

At this moment the operation of the girls teams will take place at two different locations. In the future if there will be enough girls a specific location will be chosen for the girls academy which will be in one of the club’s current branches and will work in conjunction with the club’s youth academy.

Last year the club began this project by creating three teams who have been able to enjoy top level conditions and professionalism that have been training under the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club. This past September one of the teams joined a competitive league and has advanced to the State Cup quarter finals.

The good news is that you can be a part of the Maccabi Tel Aviv family and fulfill the dream of wearing Yellow & Blue. The club is also looking for female coaches who would be interested in joining the Academy.

Warm Welcome: Gianniotis joins training camp

The Maccabi Tel Aviv players continued their preparations for the new season at their training camp in Horst, Holland. The Yellow & Blue’s new keeper Andreas Gianniotis joined the squad after signing a 3-year contract.

Warm welcome for Andreas Gianniotis

Earlier in the day, Gianniotis arrived at the training camp with CEO Ben Mansford and Barak Itzhaki as the former introduced the Greek shotstopper to his new teammates. The keeper had a light training session while the rest of the players held their second session of the day under Coach Ivic.

“I’d like to formally introduce Andreas to the Maccabi family,” as Mansford welcomed the new keeper. “Last year is now gone and everybody wants what we have. Everyone wants the trophy and there is a target on our back more than ever because you were so good last year. They will want to beat us and they will want to hurt us and we must be ready.

Andreas Gianniotis signs a 3-year-deal

The 26-year-old Greek keeper joined Maccabi on a free transfer from Olympiacos and has signed a-three-year-deal with the Club which includes an option to extend his stay by a further year.

Andreas Gianniotis, 190cm, who made 13 appearances in all competitions for Olympiacos last season, guiding the team to the Europa League group stage, joined the rest of the squad in their pre-season training camp at Horst Holland after successfully undergoing a medical and signing his contract.

Maccabi’s CEO Ben Mansford told the club’s official website: “Andreas was one of the most talented International Goalkeepers available across Europe this summer. Everyone at Maccabi is delighted that he saw becoming part of Maccabi as the next step on his already successful career. We are very impressed with Andreas from the moment we met him. Andreas is a grounded young man who has his very best years in front of him. Andreas is well known in Greece and has featured for the national side. Andreas spent time out on loan and was proclaimed the Goalkeeper of the Year in the 2016/17 season when Vladimir Ivic won the Coach of the Year award. I would like to thank Mitch for his continued support which enables us to attract players such as Gianniotis. Welcome Andreas”.

Gianniotis, joined Olympiacos as a 19-year-old and gained experience on loan at APO Fostiras and PAS Giannina before Olympiacos loaned him out to Panionios. The tall custodian was then voted keeper of the season at 2016/17 while similar success the following season at Atromitos earned him the best keeper award once again this time with another club. Gianniotis, who will wear the number 17 shirt at Maccabi, made 2 international appearances for the Greek national team and has 4 more appearances for his country’s U21 side.

Rajkovic signs for Stade de Reims

Predrag Rajkovic, who joined Maccabi Tel Aviv FC in August 2015 from Red Star Belgrade completed his move to Stade de Reims of League 1 in France for an undisclosed fee.

Rajkovic, who travelled to Holland with the team for pre-season, was given permission to leave the camp and head for France where he joined Reims which finished last season 8th in the table.

In the four seasons Rajkovic played at Maccabi, he won 1 League Championship, 2 Toto Cups, and played in the Champions League group stage and Europa League group stage on two more campaigns whilst keeping 97 clean sheets of the 202 appearances he made in all competitions.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s CEO, Ben Mansford, told the club’s official website: “Rajko was a standout performer for Maccabi last year and he was rated as one of the best Goalkeepers in Europe. On top of this, Rajko has a quite impressive CV for a Goalkeeper of his age, which includes over 200 senior appearances and international recognition from Serbia. Therefore, it is no surprise there was interest in him and this resulted in offers from Stade de Reims and ultimately this transfer been concluded. Rajko has been a pleasure to have in the squad and his presence on and off the pitch will be missed but it is pleasing to have him leave his 4 years at Maccabi as a Champion. Thank you Rajko and good luck!”.
