Open Day for Keepers at the Youth Academy

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department held a special Open Day for goalkeepers at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility. Special training sessions for the club’s keepers were held this morning which was followed by a open training sessions for shot stoppers from across the country. Israel Ainy, the head of the Youth Academy’s Goalkeeper Department was in charge of the activities which included a special staff of coaches that helped keep the quality, professionalism and enjoyment of the day. In addition, Shura Uvarov, the First Team’s Goalkeeping Coach was on hand to give out tips to the budding keepers.

At 08:30, the U13-U17 keepers held a training session as the staff split them up by age for special attention. At 10:00 the younger ages held a session that was also split up by age as well. It’s also important to note that the sessions were held using the club’s philosophy.

The second part of the day was open for young goalkeepers that are not part of the Youth Department. Roughly 40 keepers between the ages of 8-16 descended upon the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility as the professional staff split them up by age and skill level. Should a keeper have impressed the staff, the club will be in contact with them. This amazing day was a fantastic opportunity for youngsters from around the country to get a taste of the values of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Youth Department Clubs participate in Co-Existence Tournament

Clubs from the Youth Department took part in a special program that combined the Arab and Jewish communities. The Under-12 & Under-11 teams visited Ma’alot-Tarshiha and participated in a football tournament that combined the various teams as well as a presentation about co-existence.

Maccabi Tel Aviv together with Hapoel Tarshiha, Yehuda Edri Hussan and Macabi Sektzia Ma’alot Tarshiha were the 4 clubs involved in the activity which represented teams that were made up of Arabs, Jews and some were a combination of both. The participants listened intently about the history of the city of Ma’alot Tarshiha, how Jews and Arabs live together, the present and future plans.

Following the presentation, the annual tournament in memory of Yehuda Edri z”l took place with the 4 teams under the auspices of the city as the players enjoyed learning about the values of co-existence and teamwork.

Beitar’s first half
Beitar is a club that is known to have plenty of energy and the fans at Teddy know exactly how to cheer their players on. We’re not sure if there is a connection but Beitar is definitely a very dangerous squad in the first half. The capital city side have scored the most goals (33) in the league and they also happen to be the club with the most goals scored in the first half with 18 as the enter Matchday 14. The next team is Hapoel Haifa with 11 goals in the first 45 minutes.

Maccabi’s passes
The stats tell us that Maccabi is one of the club’s who make the most passes into the box. The Yellow & Blue lead the league with 37 of them with an accuracy rate of 48%. In addition, Maccabi also is at the top of the league in accurate key passes with 60% or 8/13 per match.

Maccabi sits in second place with attempts on goal with 16.4 per match while Maccabi Netanya are in first with an average of 16.5.

Set pieces
Beitar is the only club who have scored in double digits when it comes to goals from set pieces (15). They have found the back of the goal 6 times from corners, 3 via non direct free kicks, 2 by free kicks and 4 penalties.
Another area that Beitar is excellent at is successful tackles both on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball winning 54% of their battles.

The loss of Vered and the danger of Shecter
Beitar will be without Idan Vered this evening who has been having a marvelous season to date. The midfielder has scored or assisted on 10 goals this campaign and is second to only Netanya’s Dia Sabia who leads the category with 14.
However, Itay Shechter will be available for Jerusalem and he’s super dangerous with 7 goals this season and also leads the league in drawing penalties with 4 so far this year.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will head to Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem for an away match against Beitar Jerusalem and this is a great opportunity for you to accompany the Yellow & Blue as they open the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al second round of matches.

Do you want to attend the match? Purchase your tickets here! Fans that have chosen to pick up their tickets at the Stadium Box Office can do so at the South Ticket Windows. Have you already purchased your tickets and are on your way? Here’s how you can make it to Jerusalem.

Israel Railways: There are two trains that will leave Tel Aviv Savior – 17:44 and 18:44. Fans will need to change trains at Beit Shemesh. You can see the full train schedule HERE.
After the match, there will be spacial trains that will be operating on a “Fill & Go” basis from the Jerusalem Malha Station to the Savior Station in Tel Aviv.

Due to the large number of fans that will be attending the match, the police recommend using public transportation.

Make sure to stop by the Official Maccabi Tel Aviv Trailer right outside the Stadium tonight for some great deals!

Have you decided to come by car?
There will be a number of parking lots with shuttles available to the fans beginning at 18:30. Maccabi fans will be able to use the parking lot next to Zoo. If you will be coming by Route 1, it’s recommended to go via Mevaseret – Eni Kerem.

There will be shuttles following the match to take fans back to the parking lots and there will be ushers to direct the fans to the shuttle busses.

Private vehicles will not be allowed to park along the access roads around the Sports Center. Cars parked illegally will be towed.

It’s recommended to use the Begin Highways (Road 50) towards the Gilo Neighborhood.
Private vehicles will not be allowed into the Malha and Katamon neighborhoods other than residents of those areas.

Final preparations for Beitar Jerusalem

After capturing the Toto Cup last Thursday, Maccabi Tel Aviv will visit the capital city for a date with Beitar Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium, 21:00. Jordi Cruyff’s Yellow & Blue will come into the match looking to pick up three points and move closer to the top of the table.

The current situation
Maccabi will enter the evening after Hapoel Beer Sheva fell 1:0 last night at Maccabi Netanya. The Yellow & Blue have 23 points and three points will cut the lead at the top of the table to just 4 points. Of course Maccabi will need to win the league match after three draws in a row.

On the other side of the pitch, Beitar will be super motivated as they can move into first place with a victory as they currently sit with 27 points after two league wins in a row against Acre and Raanana.

What are they saying?
Head Coach Jordi Cruyff spoke at the prematch press conference yesterday and said: “It’s always a special match as they are a team with passion and difficult to play against. Our recent history has been tough and we’ve had trouble with them. We have to put aside the Toto Cup and we have to bring aggressiveness and passion to the game just as Beitar always have. We have to win and take the points.”

Veteran defender Yuval Shpungin also addressed the media on Sunday: “There has been a number of good changes over the last few matches and the Toto Cup Final was a good match against a tough rival in Beer Sheva. We have to bring the same passion to the league.”

Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv 14-0 Hapoel “Ben Zion” Haifa
The club’s Under-17 club defeated the Carmel Reds on Matchday 10 by a score of 14-0. Goal scorers included: Gil Ben Shalosh x4, Rave Assayag x2, Shai Balahssan x2, Tal Yegudayev x2, Bar Cohen x2, Ido Sahar x2. Head Coach Eliezer Ben Aharon summed up the contest: “This was the type of match that a coach always dreams about. We attacked, pressed high extremely well and we had plenty of chances thanks to the hard work we did in training and the prize were the goals we scored as a team which were quality strikes. We began strong and aggressively while taking advantage of our opportunities. We took control by the 10’ and we were able to maintain our pace of play throughout, which doesn’t always happen and that was a key part of the match in my opinion. I’ve got to hand it to the players who made sure to have a great Shabbat, but in football you can only be happy for a few hours and then you’re at it again, looking at the next challenge and that’s a win at Kfar Saba in our next match.”


Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon 0:0 Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv
Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” faced the club from the Sharon on Matchday 11 in league action. The contest ended in a goalless draw as the clubs split the points. Assistant coach Jeffrey Yishai spoke about the match: “We improved tremendously on the defensive end and we worked all week on our head game. Our coverage was good and we battled well for the first ball. We played slowly on the attack and we didn’t provide enough balls from the wings. We went to the middle too many times instead of taking advantage of our play from the sides. We improved a bit in the second half but our play in the corners and crosses weren’t good and we didn’t have enough chances.”

Ironi Modiin 3:3 Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv
The Under-15 South side was back in action after a week off and drew 3:3 at Modiin, but maintained first place on the table. Elad Kaplan, Ohad Mizrahi and Anar Ushmadi scored for the young Yellow & Blue. Head coach Ori David said following the match: “We weren’t organized and aggressive enough defensively and we gave us three goals after we were leading three times. We’ll have to see how we fare down the road and on Wednesday we will look to take the next step in Cup play.”

Maccabi “Ilan” Tel Aviv 3:2 Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon
After scoring 12 goals last Matchday, the U15 North squad continued their winning ways against the club from the Sharon as Amir Arieli x2 and Yonatan Paz scored for Maccabi “Ilan”. Asaf Heber, the Head Coach summed up the clash: “We prepared for a match against a tight knit opponent who would clog the midfield and play the long ball. We gave up an early goal due to an unforced error and we missed time after time until we drew even in the 78’. Then there was plenty of drama on the pitch as we gave up another goal but then scored a pair to win the match in the final minutes. I’m proud of the players who didn’t take their foot off the gas until the final whistle.”

Hapoel Nir Ramat Hasharon – Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv, Tuesday December 19th at 17:00, Grundman Stadium
After scoring five goals last Matchday against Ashkelon, the U19 side will look to keep up their positive momentum at the Sharon club on Matchday 11 of the Israel Youth Premier League Ligat Ha’Al. The young Yellow & Blue currently sit in 6th place with two wins in a row while Ramat Hasharon are in 12th and are winless in their last 3 matches.
