Cruyff: “We can never underestimate anybody”
The Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach Jordi Cruyff and Icelandic striker Vidar Kjartansson spoke about Thursday night’s (22:15 Israel Time) second leg second round Europa League qualification match at KR Reykjavik. Last week the Yellow & Blue defeated the Icelanders 3:1 at the home and will look to advance to the third round:

The Under-17 Club opens up training
The second Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department club began training for the 2017/18 campaign as Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv, the Under-17 Club under the direction of Eliezer Ben Aharon who earned the Double last season hit the Kiryat Shalom pitch. Ben Aharon will begin his second year as head coach and will have new players who advanced from the Under-16 team. In addition, the professional staff will include a pair of new faces in Dedi Ben Dayan who will be the assistant coach and goalkeeper coach Kale Dreshler. Patrick van Leeuwen the Club’s Performance Director and his assistant Raymond Atteveld were also present at opening practice.
Ben Aharon spoke about getting back to work on the training pitch: “It’s a new season with new team and it’s very exciting. You can already see that the team is very talented and there are some good players here. If I can help them with the little things then together we’ll be able to do some big things this season. We’ve also added some former players to the professional staff who come to Maccabi with very rich histories and I believe that we can help the players advance and improve.”
Assistant coach Dedi Ben Dayan also discussed returning to the field, however this time as part of the professional staff: “Personally, it’s very exciting. It’s coming full circle for me as I began my career at the age of 17 with the club’s first team and now I’m beginning the second chapter of my career in Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Youth Department. I hope that I’ll be able to contribute with my many years of experience and be able to teach the younger players. I’ll do the maximum to make them better players and better people as well.”
The club’s goalkeeping staff also has a new addition in Kale Dreshler who returns to the team he had once played for: “It’s a big honor to return to the club and in the past we did some great things. I came here to work and teach and I’m happy that I have come back to a big club. The conditions here are like being at Barcelona but in Israel.”
Girls Project Registration is Open
The Youth Department has initiated the opening of a girls team which is a new pilot project under the direction on Mor Shaked, a coach in the Maccabi Tel Aviv Football School together with Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen. Registration for girls born between 2008-2011 is now open however, should there be less than 12 girls who sign up for the new program they will then join the boys teams.

I think that if a team like Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is a big club, can give all of its available resources and tools to a girls team, then we will be the model for all other clubs in the country.”
Football School Registration has begun
Over the next two weeks Football School participants from last season may register for the upcoming campaign. Early registration begins on July 13th and runs until July 29th when it will then be open to the general public. Registration may be done via sending an email to the Football School.
In the new season the activities will consist of two sessions and a match. MTA FC will organize a Maccabi league for the teams consisting players of the schools in the different age groups.

Fee: 3500NIS – 350NIS for 10 months (Training begins September 1 through June 30)
There is also an additional 600 NIS fee for equipment and clothing, including: Match Kit, Training Kit, socks, bag, ball.

Under-19 Fixtures Released
The 2017/18 Youth Ligat Ha’Al Premeir League campaign is right around the corner as the first matches will be played in September. The fixtures have been released as Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv will play Beitar “Oren” Jerusalem on Matchday 1, September 9th. The Derby against Hapoel Tel Aviv will take place on Matchday 6 while the following contest will be away at Maccabi Haifa. The last Matchday of the first round will feature Kiryat Shemona hosting the young Yellow & Blue.

The Under-19 Club, Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv began training this past Saturday at Kiryat Shalom and next month they will head to their training camp in Kiev. Guy Tzarfati will begin his second season as head coach and will look to keep up the positive momentum to lead the young Yellow & Blue to successful season.

Maccabi Tel Aviv will visit Reykjavik, Iceland this Thursday for the 2nd leg of the Europa League Second Round. Let’s take a look at some of the most beautiful places around the globe and what the northern country has to offer.
The Northern most city
Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and also happens to be the biggest city in Iceland as well as being the northern most city in the world. Reykjavik is close to the arctic circle and only has 4 hours of sunlight in the winter while the days in the summer never quite end. The average yearly temperature is 5 degrees celsius with the average in January being 0.4 and 11.2 in July. The recorded population in 2016 was 122K which is 40% of Iceland’s total population.
The tourism market is developing in Iceland and especially in Reykjavik. In the past, tourists would spend a night in Reykjavik after touring around the country but today, the city is one of the biggest attraction the country has to offer. There are many new accommodations that are opening up each year from camping sites to luxurious hotels. Most of the city’s hotels are in a prime location while also featuring high speed internet access. Even though the country may be cold, the people are warm and welcoming helping you feel like you are at home. They have a good sense of humor and are very friendly to those who visit. On the weekends, the city is packed with people enjoying the themselves into the wee hours of the night with plenty of bars and dance clubs at their disposal.

Despite the Iceland’s cold weather and the long winter nights, the residents are some of the happiest in the world. The secret is the public swimming pools which are also used as the community centers plus the holy places which are seen as a right for the people and a way to escape the cold air.
The Blue Lagoon geothermal spa: The temperature may be 0 outside as snow descends on the city. But your body is in the water. Put your swimsuit on and dip right into the water from inside the building while there is a door in the water to let you out.
Ski aficionados can visit the Blafjoll Ski Center that is not far out from the city and happens to be the biggest one in Iceland. The center is split up into 5 sections for all types of skiers while a bus from the city center heads to Blafjoll every day.
Whale watching is another attraction that can’t be missed in and around Reykjavik. You can see the whales at Dalvik or Husavik as well as from boating companies that specialize in watching the whales in the water.
Just 40 minutes away from Reykjavik you will find the Thingvellir National Park which is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites where you can see seismic wave above ground, the black mountains, lakes with crystal clear water, glaciers and more.
You’ll find the Gullfoss Waterfall an hour away from Reykjavik which is one of the nicest in the world along as the water falls from the height of 32 meters.
A trip to the Haukadalur valley will bring you to a geyser park where you will see boiling water bursting from the ground. The Strokkur Geyser erupts between every 5-10 minutes.
If you’re visiting with children you’ll definitely want to stop by the Sports Center just a short walk from the city’s business center. The Sports Center is very popular with kids and features a football stadium, an olympic sized swimming pool, an additional pool with a jacuzzi, a botanical garden and a zoo. The center is very organized, neat and clean and is a fun place for the whole family.
Maccabi have arrived in Iceland
Less than a week ago, Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Reykjavik 3:1 in the first leg of Europa League second round qualifying and the 2nd leg will take place at the KR-völlur Stadium on Thursday at 22:15 Israel Time.

The Yellow & Blue will be without the injured Eli Dasa and Dor Micha and will look to advance to the 3rd round where they will face either Panionios of Greece or Slovenian side Gorica. Maccabi will land in Iceland at midnight and will take part in the prematch press conference on Wednesday with the final training session taking place afterwards.
