First Half
Beitar had the match’s first chance in the 4’ via Arik Sabo but his attempt went over the goal as the game settled down and was played primary in the midfield over the next twenty minutes. However, Dasa was issued a yellow card at the top of the Maccabi box setting up a Claudemir Perrera free kick that he sent into the top right hand corner, beating Rajikovic for a 1:0 Beitar advantage.

Hen Ezra took a long low liner towards the goal in the 33’ as Rajikovic made the save, but a minute later the aforementioned Ezra scored as the ball deflected off of Dasa after taking an Antoine Conte ball to give the host’s a 2:0 lead.

Maccabi looked to cut the lead and they did so a minute later when Schoenfeld was knocked down in the box good for a penalty that Omer Atzily duly converted, 2:1 Beitar in the 35’. With the game being played at a frantic pace, the host’s regained their 2-goal advantage as Jakub Sylvestr took an Idan Vered cross and headed the ball behind Rajikovic, 3:1 Beitar as the half came to an end.

Second Half
Cruyff made his first substitution of the contest when he replaced Shpungin with Ofir Davidzada. Atzily had Maccabi’s opening chance in the 47 while Battocchio followed that up with a screamer that deflected off the bar in the 50’ and went out. Schoenfeld had a chance in the box 6 minutes later but his attempt went off a Beitar defender good for a corner.

But two minutes later and the next time Schoenfeld touched the ball he gave a beauty of a pass to Vidar in the box that the Icelander clinically put behind the Beitar keeper Boris Kleiman to cut the host’s lead to 3:2. Golasa almost drew Maccabi even a minute later but his scorcher went over the bar.

In the 61’ Golasa found Vidar in the box however, his header went just wide left of the goal as the Yellow & Blue looked for the equalizer. Eliran Atar came on for Atzily in the 69’ and Gidi Kanuk entered the match for Battocchio. Atar launched a missile in the 84’ that went wide right of the goal as the match ended in a 3:2 win for Beitar.

מחזור 14: בית”ר ירושלים – מכבי ת”א | תקציר

Maccabi will look to get back onto the winning track after a number of disappointing results in the Championship Playoffs as they enter the contest with 55 points in 4th place and are battling Maccabi Netanya who have 52 points, for a place in Europe.

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Beitar Jerusalem 2:1 in the capital in the second round of matches which was one of the highlights of the season. This evening, Maccabi will step onto the pitch in the Special Blue & White Yom Haatzmaut Shirt celebrating Israel’s 70th Independence Day, a shirt that they wore during their first few decades as a club.

Beitar Jerusalem enters the match after a 1:1 draw against Bnei Yehuda last week and a loss to Beer Sheva a couple of weeks ago. Beni Ben Zaken’s squad has 60 points and according to media reports Antoine Conte and David Keljtens will be available after being out for some time. Jorginho is doubtful and left back Marcel Heister will most probably be unavailable.

Ahead of the match Jordi Cruyff said: “It’s a moment for our character, players who are hungry and those who have to fight. We lost points and with more effectiveness, we could have had more. But we were punished. Above all hard work.”

Dor Peretz, the Yellow & Blue midfielder also spoke at the prematch press conference: “There’s always room to improve whether we win or lose. This game is what is most important right now and we are looking to take the three points.”

Stats & Facts:
Beitar comes into the match after a draw and a loss but up until the defeat to Beer Sheva, Jerusalem had gone on a 10 game undefeated streak with 8 of those contests being wins.

Beitar’s last home defeat was at the hands of Maccabi Tel Aviv (second round this season)

The away team has won 3 of the last 4 games between the sides while another match ended in a 1:1 draw. The last time a home team won was at the beginning of 2017 (1:0 for Beitar)

Yellow & Blue Saturday Results, April 14, 2018

Hapoel Ashkelon 0:2 Maccabi “Shachar” Tel Aviv
The Under-19 side picked up another win, this time at Hapoel Ashkelon on Matchday 25 of the Israel Youth Premier League Ligat Ha’Al. Hapoel Haifa “Ben Zion” 1:3 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv
The Under-17 squad won the league title with 5 Matchdays to spare as they increased their first place lead to 16 points. Gil Ben Shalosh, Asaf Hershko and Shay Balahssan scored for the young Yellow & Blue. For Head Coach Eliezer Ben Aharon’s comments following the match CLICK HERE.

Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv 4:1 Hapoel “Nir” Ramat Hasharon
Raymond Atteveld’s Under-16 team also remained in first place with a better goal differential thanks to goals by Yali Lazar, Yonatan Paz, Hadar Mor and Yishay Bozorgi. Atteveld summed up the match: “As expected the match was not simple just like the last contest against them. The opponent played defensively and physically and at times extremely physical. I’m happy that the side kept clam and played football. We scored two goals at critical times, just ahead of the break and that motivated the players. The second half we scored the third goal fairly quickly. We controlled the pace of play and unfortunately we gave up an easy goal and that is something we had to deal with and an important lessons for the guys. We then scored the fourth goal but we also missed plenty of times. I’m happy with the result as it was a tough opponent, but we could have scored more goals and not given up any gifts to our rivals. Thinking back to the goalless draw we had last time with them, then we’re content with the result.”

Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv 5:0 Maccabi Yaffo Kabilyo
The Under-15 South club hosted the Jaffa team on Matchday 26. The Yellow & Blue have a five point lead atop of the table with 4 matches left in the campaign as they received goals from Liel Shota, Ori HaLevi, Bar Lin and Oskar Glok x2. Head Coach Ori David said following the match: “The match didn’t begin well but as the game moved along we took advantage of our opportunities. We found a way during our training sessions to maintain the same level of play for the majority of the game.”

Hapoel Raanana 1:0 Maccabi “Ilan” Tel Aviv
After four wins in a row, the Under-15 North squad fell to Raanana away on Matchday 26. Head Coach Asaf Heber summed up the match: “We played an excellent team who defeated us due to their aggressiveness and desire. We weren’t able to play our usual style of game due to their pressure and we gave up a goal on a set piece in the second half. At this stage of the season we have to understand that talent alone won’t win games; hard work on the pitch will. We will look to get back on the winning track next week.”

Cruyff: “It’s an important game for the points & pride”

Jordi Cruyff, the Yellow & Blue Head Coach along with midfielder Dor Peretz addressed the media at the prematch press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s contest at Beitar Jerusalem at Teddy Stadium, 21:00:

“It’s a very important game for us, for the points and for the pride. We will play against a team that will push and they are fighting for the title. They will go 200% and this is a test of our character and strength.”

Maccabi Netanya moving closer to Maccabi on the table:
“We need to look at what’s behind and not just in front. We know what we need to do. Everything is possible and we always have to fight as long as we’re in this mathematically.”

The Starting XI for the Beitar match:
“We will have to wait and see tomorrow. It’s a moment for our character, players who are hungry and those who have to fight. We lost points and with more effectiveness, we could have had more. But we were punished. Above all hard work.”

The challenges of playing Beitar:
“The pressure isn’t off and there is a team behind us who is winning games and are hot. The last match versus Beitar was ok, but they are a team with character, fans with passion and we have to match them.”

The last three matches:
“The last 3 games were all games that we could have won, we had more possession, shots and we just weren’t good enough when we had to be.”

Being lucky:
“Luck helps but in the end it’s about doing it when you have to under maximum pressure and we lost three games in a row which we haven’t done in a long time. This is a game of character.”

Coming up short:
“We have been irregular all season. We took the first position twice and the next game we lost points. We have done this over the last few seasons and it didn’t work as it hasn’t over the past few years. We tried to take the players out of their comfort zone. I thought we could fight for the title but over the last few games we came up short.”

Dor Peretz, the Maccabi Tel Aviv midfielder also spoke about the upcoming match against Beitar while looking back at the last few games:
“I don’t think we’ve played poorly. There were key matches which could have taken us to a better place but we couldn’t do it and we fell the last three games.”

Improving:
“There’s always room to improve whether we win or lose. This game is what is most important right now and we are looking to take the three points.”

Good environment at training:
“We aren’t at a place where we want to be and we look at each other in the eyes but we aren’t where we what to be. We are moving ahead and a good environment in the training session is important.”

Focusing on Beitar:
“We are looking at Beitar and nothing else right now. This match is the most important game that we have and it’s the only thing in our mind. We are looking to take the 3 points.”

Pressure:
“At a club like Maccabi Tel Aviv there is always pressure no matter what. We always want to do the best that we can and pressure is an important factor for us.”

70th Anniversary Shirt presented to President Rivlin

The State of Israel will celebrate 70 years this week and in honor of the event, Maccabi Tel Aviv is also marking Yom Haatzmaut in an extraordinary way.

This morning (Sunday), representatives of Maccabi Tel Aviv including CEO Ben Mansford and players, Sheran Yeini and Barak Itzhaki presented the new kit to the country’s #1 citizen, President Reuven “Ruvi” Rivlin who hosted the club’s personnel at his residence in Israel’s capital.

CEO Ben Mansford said during the event: “It gives me great pleasure to present this special shirt which commemorates the 70th anniversary of Israel to the president today. In doing so not only pay respects to this great country on its 70th anniversary but equally to involve what is a quite remarkable charity in ‘Lochamim Lehayim’ which supports the men and women of Israel that have given service and need help after such service.”

Maccabi Tel Aviv celebrates Israel’s 70th Year

The State of Israel celebrates 70 Years

It’s been 70 years since the rebirth of the nation, that put an end to thousands of years of yearning by the Jewish People. The entire country will be celebrating, even more than any other year as well as Maccabi Tel Aviv, Israel’s oldest and most decorated club who will also take part in marking the nation’s 70th year of independence. Maccabi Tel Aviv’s history is intertwined with that of Israel’s even before the founding of the state. From the changing of the kit’s color to yellow to stand in solidarity with the Jewish People who were suffering from the horrors of the Holocaust in Europe, until today as the club represents the state, proudly raising the flag of Israel in European competitions.

In an act unique to Israeli Football and in the spirit of the Independence Day celebrations, Maccabi Tel Aviv will wear a special Blue & White match kit representative of the club’s first decades.

The shirt will emphasize the Israel within us, the Maccabi fan. As Israelis, we saw the necessity to work together with an organization that emphasizes the values of the country from the beginning of its days and gives us a glimpse into the complexity of life in Israel and our uniqueness as Israelis – Lochamim L’Chaim. The organization was founded by Ido Gal Razon to help combat soldiers with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) along with their medical and legal challenges as well as other aspects of their every day life.

As part of the cooperation, the club will donate 10 NIS from each shirt sold to Lochamim L’Chaim and prior to the upcoming match against Bnei Yehuda the club will hold a ceremony in conjunction with the organization.

This year, more than ever, we all feel that being part of Maccabi Tel Aviv is being the biggest, greatest, most successful and most Israeli.

The Under-17 Team captures the league title

The Under-17 side defeated Hapoel Haifa 3:1 and won the League Championship on Matchday 25, with 5 contests left in the season. Eliezer Ben Aharon’s squad to date have won 21 games, drew 3 and lost one while scoring 84 goals (the most in the league with an average of 3.36 goals per match) and conceded 20 goals (the least in the league).

Head Coach Ben Aharon spoke about the path to the title: “This is a championship that was built on teamwork. When I received the squad at the start of the season after an average campaign with a very talented side, we knew that the road to a good season would be hard work and some very important elements including playing as a team, supporting one another and working together as a squad which is what we did from day one. We have a quality group of coaches who brought their experience and care to each and every training session and match. I, along with the players enjoyed and learned a tremendous amount.

During the course of the season, the players improved from practice to practice and match to match and that is what brought the results that we see today. To capture the title with five matches remaining shows you how much this group improved from a third place finish last year. In addition, six players also advanced to the European Championships and became very instrumental in the Israel National Team. Despite winning the title, I personally believe we missed out on the State Cup. This is the first time for me after five straight years not to be in the final, so I have a feeling that we missed out.

I’m happy to say that I along with the staff are very proud of how the squad improved so nicely all season long and we’re proud that the players will head to the Under-19 or First Team (training sessions) and that they showed their abilities, understanding and quality. Today, our club is the best place to work and to play at and we have conditions that even some of the First Teams don’t have and I have to say how proud I am to be a part of helping advance players at Maccabi Tel Aviv. The season isn’t over yet and we want to finish with an even bigger gap, so it will be very difficult to break our record.”

Key matches from the season:
Matchday 8: 2:1 win over Maccabi Haifa that pushed the Yellow & Blue ahead at the top of the table.
Matchday 10: 14:0 over Hapoel Haifa. A quality performance that continued the club’s fine play.
Matchday 24: After the side’s first defeat, the Yellow & Blue beat Hapoel Beer Sheva 8:1.
Matchday 25: 3:1 over Hapoel Haifa to secure the championship with five Matchdays remaining.
Rave Assayag leads the league in goals with 21.

Maccabi “Shachar” defeats Hapoel Ashkelon 2:0

After last week’s important win against Beer Sheva, the Under-19 club traveled to Ashkelon the last place team on Matchday 25 of the Israel Youth Premier League Ligat Ha’Al. The young Yellow & Blue entered the day in first place with a 2 point lead.

Head Coach Guy Tzarfati’s Starting XI included: Daniel Peretz, Noam Cohen, Alon Shtrozberg. Yoav Hofmayster, Tomer Mahluf, Amit Glazer, Mufleh Shalata, Tomer Altman, Netanel Peretz, Eylon Almog and William Agada.
Prince Thomas was unavailable as he was in IDF basic training.

First Half
The small pitch allowed for the host’s to play a more defensive style of game with counterattack’s which was evident from the outset of the contest as the first chance was in the 5’ by Ashkelon when a cross from the wing found their striker in the box but his header went out. Ten minutes later Shalata tried his luck from outside of the box but the ball found the outside netting of the goal.

In the 22’ Altman had a nice attempt, but his shot was taken care of by the keeper as the next twenty minutes were played primarily in the midfield with the young Yellow & Blue controlling the pace. With two minutes left in the half, Tzarfati’s charges got onto the board as a cross from the left made its way into the box and was touched by an Ashkelon defender’s hand, good for a spot kick. Almog made no mistake from 11 meters and sent the ball into the left corner, behind the keeper who had guessed the correct side but was too late to make the save. 1:0 Maccabi as the two teams headed into the break.

Second Half
The opening 25 minutes of the second half was again played in the midfield with very few chances being created by either squad as the Yellow & Blue controlled the pace of play.

In the 70’ Maccabi doubled the lead off a short corner. Shalata sent the ball to Altman who lifted it towards the goal as the opposing keeper went out to make the save, Agada arrived in time to head it home for a 2:0 advantage. Five minutes later, Agada sent a through ball 40 meters down the left wing to Eyal Hen who passed to Nidam, but his opportunity was taken care of by the Ashkelon keeper.

The host’s tried to cut the lead in the 80’ but Peretz made the alert save to send the ball out for a corner as the match came to an end with Maccabi “Shachar” taking home the 3-points and the win to remain in first place.
