SC Ashdod 1:2 Maccabi “Oded” Tel Aviv
After an important midweek win over Bnei Yehuda, Eliezer Ben Aharon’s defeated Ashdod away on Matchday 21 as they sit in first place, 12 points ahead of the 2nd place side. Bar Cohen and Rave Assayag scored for Maccabi. Ben Aharon summed up the victory: “Every match at Ashdod is challenging for any team and age group. Ashdod took the lead in the 14’ due to a defensive error, but our players didn’t get down as a result of the goal and pushed forward with quality chances which resulted in 2 goals. We made some changes in our attack in the second half in order to kill the game but we failed to score. However, we kept the lead as we fought and battled knowing that we needed the victory in order to win the title. Our goal as a team is to continue to play well and that creates even more motivation on their part. The players have a lot of determination and we saw that today.”

Maccabi “Eli Fuchs” Tel Aviv 11:0 Beitar Ironi Maale Adumim “Tzav Pius”
The Under-16 club hosted Maale Adumim on Matchday 21 and recorded 11 goals and a clean sheet. Yali Lazar, Yishay Bozorgi and Tal Turgeman all scored hat tricks while Niv Berkovich added a brace in the win. Head Coach Raymond Atteveld talked about the match: “I’m very happy with the result and the way we pressured the opponent from the first moment. We made sure that they wouldn’t think that they could take a point and control the ball. It’s usually difficult to play these types of games and continue to score goals. I’m happy that the players did do that and they deserve to be complimented. It’s good to see that even when we score 11 goals we continued to play at the same pace.”

Maccabi “Eldad” Tel Aviv 1:2 Hapoel “Rami” Tel Aviv
The Under-15 South team fell to the Reds in the Derby on Matchday 20 as Oskar Glok scored the lone goal for the Yellow & Blue. Head Coach Ori David spoke about the match: “We lost in a game that could have resulted in a big win for us. We had many good chances close to the goal after we were ahead 1:0 and we controlled the contest but two mistakes due to exhaustion cost us 2 unnecessary goals. They played well, but now we have to focus on the Cup match against Maccabi Haifa.”

Maccabi Petah Tikva 0:0 Maccabi “Ilan” Tel Aviv
After an important midweek win, 2:1 over Netanya, the Under-15 North squad played Petah Tikva to a goalless draw. Asaf Heber, the Head Coach summed up the match: This is the 4th time we met Maccabi Petah Tikva this season and they are a terrific team. As the season continued we can see the differences in the level of the matches themselves and the football that’s being played. I’m proud of the football we played and how we played as we tried to take advantage of the opponent’s weak points. If we would have been a bit more clinical near the goal we could have taken home the win, but now we have to look ahead to the State Cup quarterfinals.”

MARCELO JOINS BOTAFOGO

Maccabi Tel Aviv FC reached an agreement with Brazilian giants Botafogo for the loan deal of Marcelo Machado dos Santos.

Maccabi Tel Aviv CEO, Ben Mansford, told the club’s official website: “Marcelo had a strong pedigree and further potential to realize when joining Maccabi last year.

This season we anticipated that a switch to Bnei Yehuda would gain Marcelo the minutes required to progress his development. Unfortunately those minutes haven’t materialized. However, such is Marcelo’s standing back in Brazil, he now has the opportunity to return to his country and join Botafogo on loan for the season with them having an option to purchase him. We will monitor Marcelo’s season closely.”

The 23-year-old central midfielder joined Maccabi Tel Aviv last year from Brazilian outfit EC Vitoria and has been on loan at Bnei Yehuda since the summer.

Tibi: “Everything is close this season. This match won’t decide it all”

Eitan Tibi, the Yellow & Blue veteran central defender looked back at the goalless draw at Ashdod on Matchday 25 of the Israel Premier League Ligat Ha’Al:

“We are losing points to teams that on paper aren’t as good as us. But at the end of the day in order to win try title be have to defeat all of the teams. Everything is close this season and we have another match next week that is important and from there we will head to the playoffs.”

The team’s status:
“I don’t think that it’s the case where we aren’t good enough. I remember when we spoke a few months ago and you said that we were so far away from first place and I said that we weren’t good enough. That’s not the case now. We are a good team and we brought in new players and they really adjusted well.

Match won’t decide the title:
“There’s no question that this match won’t decide the championship as we have plenty of games in front of us. We have to come into every match focussed and ready to go. Our decisions today weren’t as good and that’s what made all of the difference.”

Micha: “I hope we can keep our stability as we head into money time”

Dor Micha, the Yellow & Blue’s acting Captain looked back after his side’s goalless draw at the Yud Alef Stadium against Ashdod on Matchday 25:

“We lost points against Ashdod in both rounds and it hurt us to lose the 4 points. A team that wants to win the title can’t lose these points.”

Learning how to win tough matches:
“We have to learn how to win these matches if we want to take the championship. Unfortunately we didn’t and we have to learn how to. I hope we can keep our stability as we head into money time.”

Differences between Hapoel Haifa and Ashdod’s style of play:
“It’s easier for us to play against teams that play more of an attacking style as we have been using 5 in the back and it works. We had a problem creating chances today.”

Birthday wish:
“I hope I’ll be healthy and that we will be able to win the title in May.”

Cruyff: “It’s a marathon and it’s going to be tough”

Jordi Cruyff, the Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach summed up his squad’s 0:0 draw against Ashdod on Matchday 25 of the Israel Premier League:

“We were very sloppy in our passing the first half. We had a few half chances in the second half but we really didn’t have the possession and enough creative players on the pitch today.”

Losing the points against clubs on the lower half of the table:
“We showed we can so it’s possible. Every point is money time. The two points we lost today are worth same as the two we lost at home to them. It’s a marathon and it’s going to be tough. We have to win and we weren’t capable of doing that today.”

Not being able to control possession:
“It’s difficult to explain. We lost points against teams that are lower on the table. We played the same team as last week that has a lot of fighters. We didn’t control the ball and it’s tough to create chances. We created half chances but it wasn’t enough.”

A marathon:
“You play all of the teams and the top 5 three times. It’s no sense to think what will be in two, three weeks. It’s a marathon and we want to grab the points where we can, but inside we feel that we lost two points.”
