Yeini: “I’m sure we’ll have a good team this coming season”

The Yellow & Blue Captain Sheran Yeini along with midfielder Dor Micha presented the new Maccabi Tel Aviv Kit produced by the Club. Both said that the new shirts were comfortable and even more comfortable than in the past. They also looked ahead to the upcoming season:

Sheran Yeini discussed getting back to training:
“The break went by quickly and I wish that there were a couple of more days to spend with the family. But we are professionals and we will get ready to go.”

Getting the squad together for the upcoming campaign:
“Maccabi Tel Aviv is a Club that knows how to handle various situations and we are aware of certain things but are unable to comment on them. We hope that in a few days there will be news of signings and of course over the past few years we’ve signed players once the season has begun. I‘m sure we’ll have a good club this coming season.”

Competing each and every season:
“We can’t guarantee that we will win a title every season but we will always give it our all and compete each and every campaign.”

The coaching situation:
“Maccabi Tel Aviv has always changed coaches and I don’t remember one that has managed me who has continued more than one year. Some have advanced and that is good for them and good for the Club as it brings in income and at the end of the day you want to be profitable selling players and coaches. Some coaches did not perform well and the Club made a change. Players would prefer that a coach stay as along as possible but in our profession there are always players and coaches who are coming and going. There are pros and cons to everything and that is how it is in other clubs as well and not just at Maccabi Tel Aviv.”

Preparing for the new season:
“We’re not trying to say that we are in an ideal situation with preparations for the first match. I don’t want to hide anything. There are National Team players that need a break after their last match and they need some down time and a mental break as it has been a long season. I personally had a very long season and it took me some time to feel like I was on vacation after the State Cup loss and now we are beginning training once again. So they need time for themselves now and we will do our best without them as we begin the preseason.”

Dor Micha also commented:
“Just as Sheran said, we’ve been in this situation before and at the end of the day everything will be fine. I hope that this will be the case once again.”

Working quietly:
“The Club has gotten us used to things happening quietly and that is what is occurring this year as well.”

Europa League qualifying:
“We were in the same situation last season and we arrived at the first qualifying round in as best shape as possible. I’m sure there will be developments over the next few days and that we will be in good shape.”

The Camera’s Lens: Official Kit Launch Event

Maccabi Tel Aviv unveiled the Official 2017/18 Kit at a festive launch event at the Camilo Hall in Tel Aviv. The Club’s sponsors, Platinum Club guests along with the sports media and general press were also in attendance. Captain Sheran Yeini and midfielder Dor Micha were chosen to present the new Kit during the launch.

For the first time the Club developed, designed and created a unique line of quality sportswear adapted to the needs of the players, fans and Club. The collection includes all the clothing necessities for the players, three Official Match Kit sets in different colors, training kit for the players and professional staff as well as presentation clothing. For the first time Maccabi Tel Aviv also launched a women’s kit.

During the event, various Maccabi officials spoke about the process that took place over the course of the past year. Sharon Tammam, the Club’s Commercial Director stated: “I believe that this is an important day for the Club, team, owner and fans. When Mitch Goldhar purchased the Club – Maccabi began along a new path with a clear goal, to build a professional club with European standards.”

“During the past six years in both the marketing and commercial aspects, we have translated our work with one phrase – to take a football team and turn it into a club and turn the club into a brand. This is a bold move and make no mistake there were commercial proposals, but this move enabled us to provide a different response to the fans and the Club. At the end of the day we are discussing our connection with our fans and FAN ENGAGEMENT. This clothing line contains the essence of the Club from the nostalgic symbol to the various unique elements that can only be found in the kits that are adapted to this specific Club. We could only achieve this through self production. I believe that this long and joint effort combined with experts from Israel and abroad including every department in the Club, professional staff, the players along with the fans brought us to an extraordinary result. Today, Maccabi has launched a complete line of clothing – that is the essence of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Maccabi Tel Aviv is a brand in the full sense of the word.”

The Club’s Merchandise Manager Tal Mualem said: “Just as we wanted the players opinion, it was also important for us to hear from the hearts of our fans, so we created a survey as well as focus groups where we learnt a number of things, for example the design, the placement of the symbol and more. The price was also an issue that we took seriously and the shirt price is currently 219 NIS for adults and 169 NIS for children. We want to invite all of our fans to visit the Club’s stores and purchase the Official shirt. The stores located at Cinema City Rishon Le’Zion and Dizengoff Street underwent a facelift specifically for the launch and believe me it’s worth coming to see. Once again, the fact that a Club like Maccabi Tel Aviv aspires to reach the highest of heights on both the commercial and marketing levels we will continue to push us to do so in the future.”

Commercial Manager Daniel Levy commented: “A major move like this requires a different approaches than what is common up until this day in Israel in terms of launching an Official Kit for the upcoming season. For this purpose, as is done throughout the world when launching a campaign, we worked together with the leading advertising and public relations firm in Israel, but even that was not enough. The most important and critical part of the campaign was that it have a Yellow & Blue soul – that was the basis for this move. After the slogan was chosen and it reflected the essence of the Club, we began building a wide ranging campaign and advertising campaign. We want the fan’s interface with the Club to be different. All of this comes and creates a different perception. The idea is to create a football club that is a brand and this is an extraordinary move. The sponsors, and the fact that sponsors such as HISENSE (the main sponsor) and Kopell Group took a step forward and expressed confidence in this amazing venture is truly wonderful.”

Juan Torrijo takes part in the training principles in modern football course

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Sports Science Department and the Wingate Institute for Physical Education and Sports are continuing their successful Training Principles in Modern Football course. The course which includes 60 academic hours over 12 meetings takes place at the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility. Lecturers include Dr. Antonio Dello Iacono, Course Coordinator, the Youth Department’s Performance Director Patrick van Leeuwen, Raymond Atteveld and other coaches from the department.

Juan Torrijo, the Club’s Head Fitness Coach conducted one of the sessions that dealt with physical fitness training for a professional or amateur club in conjunction with the team’s coach. Over the course of the lecture, various different types of training and fitness sessions were presented that are used throughout the year. Torrijo began by discussing preseason training, which is most difficult and can vary due to the club’s needs and schedule. The participants were also exposed to, amongst other things, the training structure related to endurance along with how to deal properly with the most competitive period of the season while other activities are going on each and every day. Since the schedule can change week to week, fitness programs can also vary on a day to day basis.

The last part of the presentation focused on the end of the season and when players go on break. Torrijo described the important aspects of this time period along with how to keep in shape when on vacation. During the lecture, examples from specific situations he encountered while in Israel and abroad were analyzed and discussed. Torrijo also spoke about what it is like to work in different countries, clubs and coaches as each circumstance requires flexibility and varying demands.

When asked about what the participants took way from the lecture, Torrijo answered: “I believe that they leant that you can’t always go by the book since the situations may require flexibility and could change due to the needs of the Club. The goal is to have a structured fitness program that can be changed accordingly. It’s very important to be ready for different scenarios and situations in advance so that it will be easier to make the necessary adjustments and also to prevent future issues by planning correctly. Those are the main things that they took away from the presentation.”

Torrijo added that he hopes that the course continues and that there will be more lectures in the future. In addition, it’s also important to continuously share information with the Youth Department coaches. “That’s the key to success, to work with the players and help them improve so that they can be prepared when they move up to the first team.”

Youth Department Bar Mitzvah Ceremony

The Maccabi Tel Aviv Youth Department as in years past held a Bar Mitzvah celebration and trip to Jerusalem. The youngsters put Tefillin on at the Kotel, the Western Wall as well as toured the Old City while also visiting the Knesset and the office of Tzachi Hanegbi, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, in charge of National Security and Foreign Affairs. To end the day, a festive meal was held at a restaurant in the capital city.
